As a part of my sophomore year in the Leader Advancement Scholar program, I have the opportunity to serve on a LEAD team. A LEAD team is a conglomerate of LAS students put together in several groups working to put on an event within the Leadership Institute at CMU. This year, I am on the LAS Grad Ball lead team. This team works to put on a celebration for the seniors in LAS at the end of the year. This serves as the seniors’ last hurrah and a chance for those students to be honored and recognized for their hard work over the last four years.
I was excited to be on this lead team because it is such a big event, plus it’s really fun. Every cohort (freshmen through seniors) in LAS reunites and spend a few hours together eating a gourmet meal, taking photos, and presenting awards to the fellow LASers that we look up to.
As a part of the lead team, we have spent time picking a perfect venue, choosing dinner options, decorations, dessert options (of course), and the small but important details that go into making this night spectacular. As the day of the ball is quickly approaching, our team will be working hard to put the finishing touches on the night and attempt to make this event the best it can be.
I’m excited to see how we work together as a team in the last few weeks of the semester and what we can accomplish. I hope that I can be a big help to this team and do more than simply put my vote in for what meal we should have at the ball. I’m eager to help out and make the event spectacular!
